What Is It?

Venography uses a special x-ray contrast dye to show us how your blood is flowing through your veins.

What Happens?

In order to make your veins visible on an x-ray, we inject an iodine-based contrast dye into your vein(s) through an IV. X-rays are taken as the contrast dye flows through your vein, which show any blockages, blood clots, or vascular disorders. We use this test to show the function and efficiency of deep vein valves, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and the source of pulmonary embolism (the origin point of a clot that travels to the lung).
